We will analyze your business needs and work with you to make sure that your system meets the minimum requirements for CounterPoint.

V7.5 is a 32-bit product. It will not function on DOS-only or Windows 3.1 systems (16-bit platforms). V7.5 runs on the following operating systems:

Operating System Minimum RAM
NetWare 4.0 or higher 64 MB for NetWare 4.x
128 MB for NetWare 5.x
Red Hat Linux 6.1, 6.2, 7.0, and 7.2 or higher 16 MB + 1 MB per user
SCO Unix Open Server 5.05 or higher 16 MB + 1 MB per user
SCO UnixWare 7.1 or higher 16 MB + 1 MB per user
Windows 95/98 132 MB (or Windows min.) for Workstation
Windows NT 4.0 (SP 5) or higher 64 MB for Server and 32 MB (or Windows minimum) for Workstation
Windows 2000 256 MB for Server or Advanced Server, 128 MB for Professional used as server, 32 MB (or Windows minimum) for Workstation
Windows XP Professional 32 MB (or Windows minimum) for Workstation

Internet Polling requires the communications workstation to be running Windows NT/2000/XP. Internet Polling requires the communications workstation to be running Windows NT/2000/XP.

CPU
486 processors are supported, but Pentium or better processors are recommended.

Browser
Internet Explorer Version 5 or higher (or Version 4 with XML updates supplied on CounterPoint installation CD). CounterPoint will not run on a Windows workstation that is not running IE4 or higher.

Networks
CounterPoint can operate over Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs).

Local Area Network Protocol
TCP/IP network protocol is required for both clients and servers for Windows NT/2000 networks. The Novell client software is required for NetWare networks.

Wide Area Networks
CounterPoint supports WAN installations (where programs are installed separately from data files) as long as the WAN contains at least one server that is running Microsoft Windows NT/2000 or Novell NetWare as the network operating system.

In a WAN configuration, only data file access requests are passed to the remote server. Programs are loaded locally, either from a local hard drive or a local server, to reduce network traffic over the remote link and to increase throughput.

Synchronics recommends Citrix be used as the server application to perform all processing for remote workstations. For example, several workstations can connect to a Citrix server (using either a dial-in or internet connection) to run CounterPoint. All of the actual CounterPoint processing takes place on the Citrix server itself, which acts as a CounterPoint workstation on the network.

Citrix MetaFrame is required for the Citrix server, which must be a workstation on a NetWare or Windows NT/2000 network. Synchronics does not support running Citrix simultaneously as a network server and a workstation.

The WAN/Workgroup Option provides capabilities that are valuable in WAN environments.

Pervasive.SQL 2000
Pervasive.SQL 2000 is required for proper operation of CounterPoint with Windows. Pervasive.SQL 2000 Service Pack 3 is included as part of V7.5 for Windows. Pervasive.SQL 2000 Service Pack 2 is the minimum level required for a Windows 2000 network.

Earlier versions of Pervasive are not supported. The Pervasive.SQL 2000 Workgroup Engine is not supported.

The Pervasive Workstation Engine is provided for single-user systems. The Pervasive.SQL 2000 Server Engine is provided for multi-user systems. The Pervasive server must have 64MB memory and run Windows NT Server, Windows NT Workstation, Windows 2000, or NetWare for a multi-user system. The server on a Windows network can also function as a CounterPoint workstation.
